Mosaic Monday…Happy New Year.

Our Favorite Things

During this week of Christmas we are borrowing from a beloved holiday classic and sharing “My Favorite Things” Walker Zanger style.  We’ve been highlighting a collection of our most favorite things from fashion to food, and travel to tile on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

As the curator of our “Mosaic Mondays”, I love pairing our collections with thematic images that evoke a style or emotion. It gives me artistic license to mix our materials in ways that might inspire others to think outside the box.  It also makes it difficult to choose my most favorite of them all.  Though I can say, when asked to commit to my most favorite, it is hands down any of our Calacata marbles. Mother Nature really outdid herself with the classic beauty of this iconic stone. From the subtle taupe veins to the warm gold’s and creamy grays’, this stone plays well with just about everything in our collections. Me, I love it with our Tuileries Chocolate and Fedora. Of course when paired with a cupcake it just pushes it’s appeal right over the edge!

Here are some more Walker Zanger favorites from the best of the best:

Jonathan Zanger, President

“It’s very difficult to pick a favorite stone, or a favorite collection.  They keep changing and evolving.  I have so many personal connections with each stone and each tile collection – the inspiration behind them, the people that quarry, fashion, or create them, the wines we drink and the food we eat, when we travel to the areas they come from, their place in my home or office, and in the homes of friends that have become clients, and clients that have become friends….when I see one of our tiles or slabs, and make such a connection, then it is my favorite thing.”

“It’s hard to pick my favorite products being so deeply involved in each and every product Walker Zanger makes, but the two that stick out the most are 6th Ave. from our factory on the ceramic side, and Jet Set in the Stone Collection.

The combination of a well-priced collection as well as the ability of mixing field tile sizes with interesting shaped mosaics makes 6th Ave, an instant go-to product.  One can also blend colors together with its soft color pallet.

Since the stone business has been in my blood for generations, I love the intricate, detailed and precise water jet patterning of Jet Set.   The mixture of stone colors twisting together to make such fun designs makes the collection a must have product.  Even if it is just for a feature wall in ones bathroom or backsplash in a kitchen.”

“I always have a hard time choosing my “favorite” collection. Since I’m intimately involved in the design of all our products, it’s like choosing a ‘favorite’ child!

Right now,  I’d have to say my favorite collection is Tangent. I love the unusual geometric designs and the amazing patterns we were able to create combining water jet and hand cut mosaics.  The  collection is both timely and timeless….. the aesthetic sweet spot we are always aiming for.”

kimbioKim Bernard, Executive Director of Facilities Design

“My favorite thing of the moment…is Studio Moderne Fretwork.  I love the architectural feel of the tile with its’ grand scale and pronounced relief.  The transitional nature of the pattern fits elegantly and comfortably into a traditional or contemporary space.”

We hope that whatever your favorites may be, you find yourselves surrounded by beauty this holiday season.

Inspirations for Sterling Row Patterns

Sterling Row – “Dress your room with Style”

Like the elegant suit of well dressed gentleman, Sterling Row tiles are exquisitely tailored in both shape and color.  Created from a combination of porcelain tile and marble in tones of grey, white,  brown, linen and black, the designs of Sterling Row are inspired by the elegant feel of fine fabrics, the richness of burnished  leather and the luxuriously appointed shops of the finest tailors in London, Manhattan and Paris.

Each Sterling Row pattern was created with the same attention to detail that a fine tailor applies to creating a bespoke suit. Sterling Row’s designs and pattern names like “Link,” “Houndstooth,” “Wingtip” and “Oxford” pay playful homage to the gentleman’s milieu.

The Tuxedo pattern was inspired by the crisp angle of a classic Tuxedo jacket lapel….

…while the Houndstooth pattern takes its cue from the classic pattern that originated in Scotland in the 1800’s.

Sterling  Row’s harmonious color blends and distinctive designs make it the perfect base for an interior of rich detail and layered patterns of color.

Sterling Row Patterns are available in two color ways, Linen and Charcoal, created from three colors of  Statale porcelain tile and Thasos White, Bianco Bello  and Imperial Black Marbles.

Sterling Row’s ten distinctive patterns offer designers a wealth of  decorative options for floors or walls, alongside the  technical advantage of impervious porcelain, which can be used in any residential, and most commercial applications.
