The Chevron.

The insignia of confident, outside of the box designs, the Chevron draws you into a room and says; notice me.

Whether in bold black and white or subtle tone on tone, this pattern is the focal point of classic design.

A taste of Spring.

Baked, photographed, and taste tested by Pat McIntosh. Background: Walker Zanger Calacata Luna Honed Marble.

Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of Winter, but here in Northern California we have been having glorious weather. Windows have sprung open and the hint of spring to come is clearly in the breeze. For those of you still in the chill of Winter grab a bag of lemons and bake up a batch of spring this weekend.

For the Crust
1/2 pound unsalted butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp. kosher salt

For the Filling
6 extra-large eggs at room temperature
3 cups granulated sugar
2 tablespoons grated lemon zest (4-6 lemons)
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cup all-purpose flour
Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

For the crust, cream the butter and sugar until light in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Combine the flour and sale and, with the mixer on low, add to the butter until just mixed. Dump the dough onto a well-floured board and gather into a ball. Flatten the dough with floured hands and press it into a 9 x 13 x 2 inch baking sheet, building up a 1/2-inch edge on all sides. Chill.

Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes, until very lightly browned. Let

cool on a wire rack. Leave the oven on.

For the filling, whisk together the eggs, sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, and flour. Pour over the crust and bake for 30-35 minutes, until the filling is set. let cool to room temperature.

Cut into bars or triangles and dust with confectioners’ sugar.

Stix. The Rock Opera.

“Welcome to the Grand Illusion,”   “Come Sail Away,”  “Babe I’m Leaving.”  Am I the only one who can still hear these lyrics from the late 70′s Power Ballad Band Styx?  Didn’t you cruise the roller rink on the weekend (skating backwards if you were good) to those songs, hoping that certain someone might hold your hand when “Babe” played during the slow skate? I’m getting off on a tangent here, as I’m really supposed to be writing about our new collection of glass tile, but no matter how it is spelled – Styx, Sticks or Stix – it always takes me back……

Anyways, we are very excited about “Stix” our new extension to the popular Weave Collection, part of our collaboration with Oceanside Glasstile.   The Stix is a pattern created from 3 different size tiles randomly mounted to create an exhilarating linear pattern.  There is a great tension between the modern linearity of the pattern and the hand cut edge and undulated surface of the poured glass.Throw in some outrageous new blends and “Stix” rocks glass tile in a whole new way! So join me, won’t you for a quick little preview of of the collection we like to call “Stix – the Glass Opera”

The “Sterling” blend is my personal favorite, the grey/yellow/white combo is so on trend and I can already feel the awesomely eclectic designs that it will inspire

Staying in the grey theme, feast

on this beauty – the Ansel Blend.  Imagine it as a backsplash paired with Calacata Marble Counters!  Talk about a rock opera!

I would stay in the tub till I was all pruney if this Stix “Cascade Blend” was on the tub splash. Close your eyes and  feel the tropical breeze….

Suffice to say I am excited about this new collection!  You can check it out right now in our showrooms.  Let me know what you think about our our newest rock opera!
